The 1965 family drama 'Those Calloways' will have a one-time showing in the auditorium of the Harold B. Lee Library at Brigham Young University Friday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.).
Admission is free, but seating is limited. Children ages 8 and over are welcome. No food or drink is permitted in the auditorium.
Brian Keith stars with Vera Miles, Brandon de Wilde and Linda Evans in a heart-warming story filmed in northern Vermont about a man’s fight to establish a wild goose sanctuary in the face of those who want to commercialize his lakeside property.
'Those Calloways' was another live-action feature that Disney specialized in during the 1950s and 1960s aimed at family entertainment. Its accent on youthful performers accounts for the presence of Brandon de Wilde, whose role years earlier as “Joey” in the critically acclaimed 'Shane' made him known to audiences the world over.
'Those Calloways' marked the first feature film appearance of Linda Evans, who later became a household name in two long-running television series, 'The Big Valley' (1965-1969) and 'Dynasty' (1981-1989). It also showcased a young TV and film star named Tom Skerrit.
The showing is part of the BYU Motion Picture Archive Film Series, co-sponsored by L. Tom Perry Special Collections, the Friends of the Harold B. Lee Library and Dennis & Linda Gibson. The film was the final film score of Max Steiner, composer of more than 300 film scores for many of Hollywood’s greatest films, whose collection is preserved by L. Tom Perry Special Collections.
