Communications Scholarships

Carrie Sheffield: “I [was awarded a] grant to help support me as I interned in New York City with Newsweek magazine … As an intern, I was assigned to work in the Tip Sheet section of the magazine … I was able to get 5 “by-lines,” that is, five articles with my name appearing in the magazine as the author … This meant that 3.1 million subscribers could read my work in Newsweek’s domestic edition…I am grateful for the assistance I received in making this experience possible.”

Kristan Brooks: “I have recently completed my internship with Alan Taylor Communications in New York City…I cannot express what a joy and privilege it was to have this experience as well as this grant to help pay for my housing expenses…

Unlike some internships, this opportunity was not limited to running errands or doing busy work … After meeting with the appropriate super-visors for each account, I started doing research and by the second day I was calling reporters.”
