Recent alumna Woods Wins Concertmaster Position with Ballet West

Recent alumna and violinist Aubrey Woods auditioned for and won the concertmaster position with Ballet West.

“That someone fresh out of college would win a professional concertmaster position in their first audition is remarkable,” said Kory Katseanes, director of the School of Music and himself a former violinist in the Utah Symphony.

While studying at BYU, Woods served as concertmaster for the last two years in the BYU Philharmonic and the BYU Chamber Orchestra. She was a featured soloist in BYU’s collaboration with the Beijing Dance Academy, both when they traveled to China in 2011 and recently for the gala concert of the Fifth Workshop for Chinese Arts Education Leaders Workshop.

“She is perhaps the best violinist we've ever had at BYU,” said Katseanes, “and this recent success in such a prominent position is a testament to her talent, and to what fine students we have at BYU.”
