School of Music Grad to Compete in Bachauer Piano Competition

Conlan Miller, an alumnus of the BYU School of Music, will compete in the Bachauer Piano Competition this month with 36 other participants from 14 nations.

Miller and the other hopefuls will perform two short recitals in Salt Lake City, after which the judges will narrow down the competition to 12 semifinalists, and then three finalists will be chosen. From the final three the winner will be chosen by the jury and awarded $40,000. The Gina Bachauer International Piano Foundation has sponsored dozens of similar competitions since its genesis in 1976.

Irene Peery-Fox, one of BYU’s most respected piano teachers, has coached Miller regularly for over a decade, preparing him to win competitions during his undergraduate studies.
