BYU’s Art Education Club to host seminar focused on museum education opportunities for students
On November 10, the Art Education Club will host a seminar with Laura Allred Hurtado, the executive director of the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art (UMOCA).
“We thought it would be a wonderful opportunity for art education students to learn from more experienced professionals, so we decided to integrate seminars into the other activities we do,” said student Deanna Nielson. Nielson is an art education student who volunteers as the club’s co-president with Mikaela Cannon, another art student working towards teaching licensure. The club hosted its first seminar in October featuring Anna Davis, the past president of Utah Art Education Association (UAEA). The first seminar was a success, and the club is planning to host these seminars monthly. Cannon attests that joining the Art Education Club has opened doors to the art education world. “The Art Education Club is really helpful in making connections with fellow peers and in supporting one another in the field,” said Cannon. “But these seminars are unique because they help us build relationships with professionals outside of the BYU atmosphere.” All those who may be interested in attending the upcoming seminar on November 10, please join the club’s email list by emailing byuarted@gmail.com.
