The Brigham Young University Philharmonic Orchestra will join with the Salt Lake Children’s Choir in a performance Friday, Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.
Tickets are $10 for the public, $9 for alumni and senior citizens, and $6 for students. They are available at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, (801) 422-4322, byuarts.com/tickets.
The orchestra and choir will perform Symphony No. 3 in D Minor by Gustav Mahler. The performance will also include the BYU Concert Choir women and soloist Heather Froutz, contralto.
The Salt Lake Children’s choir was founded in 1979 by Ralph B. Woodward to help young singers learn correct form and focus on artistry. They are regarded as one of the finest ensembles of its kind in the nation and have been requested for major soundtracks and promotions, including projects for CBS, NBC and Walt Disney Productions.
Heather Foutz is a BYU graduate student from Boise, ID. In BYU operas, Froutz has portrayed Miss Penelope Newkirk in the 2011 performance of “Help! Help! The Globolinks!” and Katisha in the 2012 production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s “The Mikado.” She has also performed with the Utah Lyric Opera and received the Farnsworth-Winterton Award at the BYU Young Artist in Voice Competition.
The Philharmonic features nearly 100 of the university's top student instrumentalists who regularly perform a wide and demanding repertoire.
