Student choreography on display at Senior Showcase Nov. 2-3

The Brigham Young University Department of Dance presents the Senior Dance Showcase Friday and Saturday, Nov. 2-3, at 7:30 p.m. in the Dance Studio Theatre, 166 Richards Building.

Tickets are $6 and can be purchased by calling the Fine Arts Ticket Office at (801) 422-4322 or visiting byuarts.com.

The showcase will feature the choreographic work of seniors graduating in dance.

BYU dance student Emily Dance Fish’s piece was inspired by American Sign Language, Catherine Taggart Baughman’s work will explore the calling of motherhood and Angelica DeLashmette’s choreography examines the parallels of early Mormon pioneers and those who still seek for Zion today.

Other students will present a wide variety of choreography, including pieces from students Chelsey McNeil, Janet Rowthorn and Amy Symmes Berrett. The concluding performances will include Michelle Armstrong’s piece featuring a live piano accompaniment of “Claire de Lune” by Debussy and a piece by Joshua Mora.

The work is the result of senior projects performed as a capstone experience for the students. The project allows students to demonstrate their understanding of performance, technique and composition.
