"The Lark Ascending” highlight of Symphony Orchestra concert Nov. 3

Brigham Young University’s School of Music will present its Symphony Orchestra in a concert Saturday, Nov. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Tickets start at $6 available through the Fine Arts Ticket Office, (801) 422-4322, or online at byuarts.com/tickets.

The orchestra will be conducted by Christian Smith and will feature School of Music faculty violinist Monte Belknap. The orchestra will begin the concert with the Concerto Grosso No. 3 in C Minor, Op 6 by Arcangelo Corelli. The orchestra will then play “The Lark Ascending” by Vaughan Williams and “An Outdoor Overture” by Aaron Copland.

Following a brief intermission the concert will conclude with “Night on the Bare Mountain” by Modeste Mussorgsky, orchestrated by Rimsky-Korsakov.

The Symphony Orchestra is the preparatory orchestra in the School of Music. The symphony shares the responsibilities of collaborating with the ensemble concerts presented in the school, as well as performing regularly with musical theatre productions.
