A musical version of James M. Barrie's sprightly 'Peter Pan,' the classic story of the mischievous boy who wouldn't grow up, will be presented Wednesday, Jan. 19, through Saturday, Jan. 29, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall at Brigham Young University.

Seven top Brigham Young University pianists from the School of Music will perform in the finals for the the piano division of the annual Concerto Competition Wednesday, Jan. 5, at 8 p.m in the Madsen Recital Hall. Admission is free.

The Brigham Young University School of Music will present cellist Garrick Woods in a recital, 'No Pianos Allowed,' Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 5:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall. The event is free. He will be assisted by BYU violin professor Alex Woods.

'Thought of You' part of Conte Animated exhibit Jan. 20-29, HFAC Gallery 303 This short animation is a creative collaboration between BYU animation professor Ryan Woodward and Dance Dept. instructor Kori Wakamatsu. Woodward, who has done storyboards for Hollywood blockbusters (Iron Man 2, Spider Man 3 and Where the Wild Things Are), approached Wakamatsu with the concept this summer. 'Just thinking about that dynamic of relationships stirred my mind about doing an animation with dance,' Woodward said. 'I knew I could not animate a beautiful, contemporary dance because I'm not a dance choreographer, and that's where Kori came in.' See the behind-the-scenes video. 'Ryan gave me the back story to the piece and what motivated it and how he wanted it to be a love story,' Wakamatsu said. 'I love it when the arts can integrate and find ways to connect.' Wakamatsu choreographed a routine and chose dancers to perform the piece. Woodward then had the dance filmed so he could recreate it with animation, which he did by using 24 frames for every second. The end result is a touching animated short that has now notched more than 1 million views between Vimeo and YouTube. Brigham Young University's School of Music will honor the 400th anniversary of the King James Version of the Bible with a guitar recital by faculty artist Michael Hicks Saturday, Jan. 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center. Hicks' recital is titled 'Jesusongs: A Night of Old-Time Gospel and Christian Folk.' The performance is free, and audience members are encouraged to bring their Bibles. Song titles include 'Blessed Assurance,' 'There is Power in the Blood,' 'We are One in the Spirit' and 'Forget Your Hexagram.' Hicks recently received ASCAP's Deems Taylor Award (news.byu.edu/archive10-dec-musicologyaward.aspx), one of the nation's highest musicology honors, for the third time in his career. He earned a doctorate in music arts from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1984 and has been teaching music theory and composition at BYU since 1985. 'Kit Carson,' the action-adventure film starring Jon Hall, Dana Andrews and Lynn Bari, will be shown on Friday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the Harold B. Lee Library at Brigham Young University.
