Brigham Young University's Dancers' Company under the direction of Pat Debenham will be presenting an innovative performance during 'Dance in Concert' Thursday through Saturday, Jan. 28-30, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall, with a matinee at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Living Legends, a performing group at Brigham Young University celebrating the Polynesian, Native American and Latin American cultures, will perform Friday and Saturday, Jan. 15-16, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Brigham Young University's best singers will compete for the 'Singer of the Year' title in the School of Music's Young Artists of Voice Competition Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, Jan. 12, 14 and 16, in the Madsen Recital Hall of the Harris Fine Arts Center.

Brigham Young University School of Music faculty member April Clayton will present a flute recital Friday, Jan. 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall. Admission is free. Clayton, accompanied by Jed Moss at the piano, will perform a variety of pieces, including the Sonata in E major by Johann Sebastian Bach 'Encuentro' by Manuel Sosa and 'Ballade' by Frank Martin. Clayton received her doctorate in music arts from the Juilliard School. Recent highlights include touring as a guest with the New York Woodwind Quintet and being featured in a cover story by Flute Talk magazine as a leading flutist of her generation. She has also performed in festivals around the world, including the XIX SeminÁ¡rios Internacionais de Musica at the Federal University of Bahia in Brazil, the Holders' Season Festival in Barbados, as well as at venues in Italy, Germany, Russia, Mexico and South Korea. Joseph Ostraff, a professor of visual arts at Brigham Young University, has been awarded $10,000 for visual arts excellence by the Utah Arts Council. He will be recognized, together with the other 2011 arts fellowship recipients, in an exhibition that will open at the Rio Gallery in Salt Lake City in March 2011.

At the Museum of Art: A new exhibition at the Museum of Art celebrates a century of collecting art and the legacy of philanthropy that has enriched the culture of the university and the community since that first gift. - “The First 100 Years: Collecting Art at BYU” tells the remarkable story of the development of the university art collection through the display of 150 of the outstanding works that have been acquired over the past century. This exhibition will be on view in the Marian Adelaide Morris Cannon Gallery on the museum’s main level from through Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010. - “Types and Shadows: Intimations of Divinity,” on view through March 13, encourages viewers to participate in the process of seeking out and finding meaning in the symbols, metaphors and veiled visual references that “point to” the divine mission of Jesus Christ. The exhibition is in the Warren and Alice Jones and Paul and Betty Boshard galleries on the museum’s lower level. - “Mirror, Mirror: Contemporary Portraits and the Fugitive Self”features 56 works of art by 32 local and international artists who trace the influences of rituals, facades, social media and the family on the formation of individual identity. Ultimately this exhibition examines what it means to be human beneath the veneers of identity we accumulate in society. This exhibition is on view in the Conway A. Ashton & Carl E. Jackman Gallery on the museum’s lower level through Saturday, May 8.
