Ron Brough to present faculty percussion recital Sept. 22

by Brandon Garrett Brigham Young University School of Music professor Ron Brough will perform a number of percussion pieces Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Madsen Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. The performance is free. He will be assisted by Barry Hillman, Seretta Hart and Lisa Verzella on trumpet, with Will Kimball, Mark Ammons and Rusty McKinney on trombone. Brough was educated at the University of North Texas before obtaining his doctorate at the University of Northern Colorado. He later taught at Indiana State University and came to BYU in 1984. He has served as the percussion coordinator for the School of Music and artistic director for the student groups Percussion Ensemble and Panoramic Steel. He has also performed as a percussionist for the Utah Chamber Orchestra, Pioneer Memorial Theatre Orchestra, Ballet West, Utah Opera and Symphony and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. He has also toured across the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia. Brough is a member of the BYU faculty jazz group Q’d Up and has written arrangements for a number of labels, including Tantara, Malleworks and Panyard Publications. Royal Holloway Collection brings Victorian treasures to BYU Museum of Art

In one of the most impressive spending sprees in art history, Thomas Holloway, an 80-year-old English multi-millionaire, purchased 77 of the finest contemporary British paintings available – spending the equivalent of many millions in today’s dollars and breaking several auction records – to furnish an art museum for the London women’s college he founded in 1879.
