The BYU Film Committee announces a call for proposals for the funding of film and television projects.

The 1940 Warner Bros. adventure “Virginia City” starring Errol Flynn, Miriam Hopkins, and Randolph Scott will have a one-time showing in the auditorium of the Harold B. Lee Library at Brigham Young University Friday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m.

The Symphonic Band at Brigham Young University, conducted by Kirt Saville, will be present “Made in America” Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Since making their worldwide debut at the Osaka 1970 World Expo, Brigham Young University’s Young Ambassadors have been entertaining audiences across the globe. They will be presenting their exciting show, “Harmony: the Music of Life,” to local audiences Wednesday through Saturday, Feb. 13-16, at 7:30 p.m. in the Pardoe Theatre, with a 2 p.m. Saturday matinee.

Michael McQuay, a doctoral student of piano performance and literature at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, will present a piano recital Saturday, Feb. 23, at 1:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall at Brigham Young University.

The Brigham Young University Motion Picture Archive Film Series, part of the L. Tom Perry Special Collections, will show the 1934 drama “Cleopatra” directed by Cecil B. DeMille Friday, Feb. 8, in the Harold B. Lee Library auditorium on level one.

Brigham Young University Theatre Ballet will perform the beloved tale of “The Sleeping Beauty” in a fully staged ballet featuring the BYU Philharmonic performing Tchaikovsky’s classic musical score Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 14-16, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall. Matinees will be Friday at 10 a.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m.

In April 2012, after positive press reviews from previous concerts and a CD release, Geralyn Giovanetti and Christian Smith travelled to London to perform in a series of six recitals.

All students in the College of Fine Arts and Communications are invited to attend the annual Meet the Dean Forum this Thursday, January 31 at 11:00 a.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall, hosted by the College of Fine Arts and Communications Student Association.

While the Phantom of the Opera has been gaining popularity on campus, BYU’s own opera students have been hard a work off of campus. The Metropolitan Opera National Council named Rebecca Pedersen as the winner of the 2013 Rocky Mountain Region auditions and awarded Melissa Otani-Jensen the Utah award.

The BYU advertising capstone classes typically do work for outside clients, but few are the caliber of the LA Clippers. Last fall semester, the BYU ad program and LA Clippers began a working relationship. Los Angeles Clippers’ CFO Ed Lamb took an interest in the BYU advertising program after BYU associate professor Doug McKinlay pitched the students’ ability to produce an ad campaign for the NBA team. The winning team not only impressed the client, but also received an ADDY (Utah Advertising Award) for their work.
