A Fond Tribute to Former Dean Ed Adams

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ed Adams, former dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communications.

Adams devoted 25 years of service in key academic leadership at BYU, including 10 years as dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communications. He also served as associate dean of the college and as chair for the Department of Communications for many years. He was the founding director for the School of Communications.

He was instrumental in projects such as the renovation of the Brimhall Building, as well as the proposal, planning and design of the Music Building, West Campus Office Building and the Arts Building. His accomplishments also include the creation of the Ad Lab and the Public Relations Intelligence Lab in the School of Communications.

As a scholar, Adams was the recipient of BYU’s Young Scholar Award (2002) and The Kreighbaum Award from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (1998), one of the association’s highest honors.

“Dean Adams left a mark on many of our lives, and his impact on the CFAC cannot be measured,” said Diane Reich, current dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communications. “In the midst of our loss and grief, we will remember the compassion and care that Ed exhibited in his work and interactions, and the sincere love he shared with all whom he met.”

He will be sorely missed.
