Raymond Smith shares his “last hurrah” with BYU Synthesis as the band performs his most beloved pieces
As the year comes to an end, director Raymond Smith says “goodbye” to the BYU Synthesis band as well. After 40 years directing the band, he looks forward to presenting “some of his favorite music pieces from the past forty years” in the band’s performance on November 17.
After their fall performance, the group will be performing in Texas at a jazz festival in January, followed by a visit to New York taking part in a collegiate invitational. Smith said, “It’s a great honor to be invited to do that, so it’s pretty cool for this band.”
In the excitement of preparation for these upcoming events, “The band is [in high spirits] right now getting ready for these great opportunities to play and we’ll be airing some of the stuff that we will do,” said Smith
As his time with BYU Synthesis comes to a close, Smith reflects fondly on the band members and looks forward to the concert soon to come. He said, “This is a great band and I think the concert in November is going to be terrific.”
This event will take place in the de Jong Concert Hall on Wednesday, November 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Harris Fine Arts Center.
