Glasgow-Based Band Ímar Performs at BYU As Part of Their US-Canada Tour
Elevate your St. Patrick’s Day celebrations with a concert by Glasgow-based Irish band Ímar. This five-piece group brings the traditional sounds of Ireland to the BYU stage for the BRAVO! Professional Performing Arts Series.
The band is made up of musicians Adam Brown, Ryan Murphy, Tomás Callister, Adam Rhodes and Mohsen Amini. Each member of Ímar is a current or former member of United Kingdom bands such as Manran, Mec Lir, RURA and Talisk and have collectively won multiple BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and All-Britain/All-Ireland titles. The bandmates met as teenagers through Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, the Irish traditional music network that mentors budding artists and stages annual Fleadh competitions. The members took separate paths as adults, each forging their own impressive legacy in the music industry, only to reunite and discover the chemistry they had as a group.
“As soon as we all sat down to play together properly, it just worked,” said Adam Brown.
Ímar will stop at BYU as part of their “Crossing the Atlantic” tour through the United States and Canada. “I came across this band almost by accident and fell in love immediately. These five virtuosos play the traditional folk music of Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man in such a cohesive, breathtaking blend that you can’t help tapping your feet!” said BRAVO! Series producer and director Lyndsay Keith.
Come fall in love with the sounds of the United Kingdom with this unique concert featuring award-winning musicians from across the pond.
