BRAVO! Professional Performing Arts Series Presents Dominik Wagner with the BYU Philharmonic Orchestra in Concert to Celebrate Composer Serge Koussevitzky’s 150th Birthday
Add world class talent to your BYU Homecoming Week with a special performance by double bass virtuoso Dominik Wagner and the BYU Philharmonic Orchestra as they come together to celebrate composer Serge Koussevitzky’s 150th birthday. At only 27 years old, Wagner has won major international competitions and has worked closely with contemporary composers to premiere many new pieces of repertoire. His precision and artistry places him in high demand as both a soloist and orchestral musician.
“Dominik Wagner is a huge name in the double bass world,” said BRAVO! producer and presenter Lyndsay Keith. “We are so lucky to have him here to perform with our orchestra students (who are incredibly talented on their own), and it’s so exciting to be part of Homecoming Week.”
Serge Koussevitzky was a Russian-born composer who directed the Boston Symphony Orchestra for 25 years and was a mentor to Leonard Bernstein. Koussevitzky founded the Tanglewood Music Center and commissioned a number of works from now-famous composers such as Aaron Copland, Béla Bartók, Igor Stravinsky, Benjamin Britten, Sergei Prokofiev and Maurice Ravel. Wagner, together with the BYU Philharmonic Orchestra, will perform Koussevitzky’s “Concerto for Double Bass and Orchestra.”
Wagner aims to expand the double bass repertoire through his daring arrangements, engaging stage presence and vocal melodic delivery. His performance with the BYU Philharmonic Orchestra is a great way for audience members to finish BYU Homecoming Week on a high note and celebrate the famed compositions of Serge Koussevitzky.
