BRAVO! Series Brings Olympic Spirit to the BYU Stage

The BYU BRAVO! Professional Performing Arts Series Will Open The 2024—25 Season with “Eric Liddell: The Chariot of Fire” Performed by Searchlight Theatre Company

To open the 2024—25 season, the BRAVO! Professional Performing Arts Series is bringing the Olympic spirit to the stage with “Eric Liddell: The Chariot of Fire.” Searchlight Theatre Company tells the story of Scottish runner Eric Liddell’s determination and faith as he fights to stay true to his principles during the 1924 Paris Olympic Games.

Based in the United Kingdom, Searchlight Theatre Company is dedicated to sharing life-changing stories that affirm beliefs and reinforce shared values. “This company and this story are a perfect fit for BRAVO! audiences and so relevant for our day,” said Lyndsay Keith, producer and presenter of the series. “It is also an exciting way to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Eric’s achievements and keep the Olympic spirit alive that we just experienced this summer.”

During the 2024 Paris Olympics, exactly 100 years after Eric Liddell’s story and in the same city, BYU’s own Track and Field program achieved great success. The university had 17 Olympic Trials entries (the most out of any NCAA Division I program) and qualified nine current or graduate athletes. Recent graduate Kenneth Rooks took home silver in the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase. “All of the BYU athletes at the Olympics represented the same character as Eric Liddell — grit and determination, a commitment to put God first and a humble acknowledgement of the talents given by Him,” said Keith. “I see this production as a perfect way to honor their efforts and achievements alongside Liddell’s.”

This production will open an inspiring season for the BRAVO! Series, which will feature “artists who have been blessed with immense talents and have specifically been chosen for their prowess as well as their ability to complement BYU’s aim to share light and hope for the benefit of the world. The arts have an incredible potential to enrich and uplift,” said Keith.

With a BYU education, affordability and excellence go hand in hand. The same is true of the BRAVO! Series which offers an incredible value for community members on and off campus. This season marks the debut of a new 2 for $20 student deal for all BRAVO! performances. “This assists BYU’s student focus by enabling students all across campus to engage with the arts in ways that are meaningful both individually and socially,” said Keith.
