In April 2012, after positive press reviews from previous concerts and a CD release, Geralyn Giovanetti and Christian Smith travelled to London to perform in a series of six recitals.
The performances were greeted with great enthusiasm. Giovanetti and Smith were also invited to help create podcasts for some of the venues’ websites and to perform again at those and other London venues in the future.
“Performing in arguably one of the world’s greatest concert environments was a test of our preparation, skill and musicianship,” said Christian Smith. “To be so warmly received and appreciated was a tremendous gift and literally opened the door to engagements throughout the world in the most prestigious venues.”
Music professors from BYU often travel locally and abroad to perform at other venues to develop their musical careers and to teach students about the rigors of a professional artistic career.
Christian Smith explains, “This project was meaningful to my students on several levels. They gained a further appreciation of their professors’ artistic lives, through observing the preparation, the planning, and the demands of touring that go into nurturing one’s artistic career.”
Their tour took them to the following places:
April 23, 2012 St. Peter’s Church, Notting Hill
April 24, 2012 Wesley’s Chapel
April 25, 2012 St. Dunstan’s-in-the-West, Fleet St.
April 26, 2012 St. Pancras’ Church
April 27, 2012 Foundling Museum
April 28, 2012 Chapter House, Lincoln Cathedral, Lincoln, UK
