The School of Communications Held Its Annual Career Fair to Encourage Students to Network With Companies for Future Job and Internship Opportunities.
This past Friday, students from BYU’s School of Communications gathered in the Garden Court of the Wilkinson Center to explore post-college career paths and network with real-world professionals. The Communications Career Fair aims to connect employers with students interested in communications-related fields — the fair even offered professional headshots!
“I am here looking for a job,” said Liz, a media and society major. “It has been a super great opportunity to network with people and learn about new companies.”
Several well-known companies, such as Deseret News and Larry. H Miller Sports + Entertainment, were in attendance to advertise open positions. The School of Communications also brought in interesting startups such as Nextstep, an app designed to help students graduate with a job already lined up. Another rising company, Pearl, attended in hopes of finding sales reps for their AI dental company.
“We are pioneering the AI dental space by having an AI that can read radiographs,” said Preston, who represented the company at their booth. “It is a little-known fact that the dental AI hub is in Utah and that a lot of dental technology comes out of Utah. We are looking for sales reps to help with business-to-business relations.”
Even employment opportunities with BYU were represented at the fair. Students at BYU have the opportunity to apply for positions at communication hubs such as BYU Broadcasting and BYU’s Kennedy Center. There is no shortage of hands-on experiences offered on campus!
Students found internship and job opportunities at the fair, and some walked away with a newfound confidence in themselves. One of those individuals was Hallie Farnsworth, a recently admitted student to a School of Communications program.
“I saw two booths and recognized old friends running them,” said Farnsworth. “I realized how powerful networking is and how it can benefit you as you make genuine connections at BYU. I realized that I need to be confident in attending events like this because just like my former classmates, I can use these opportunities to get to where I want to be in my career.”
Do not miss out on next year’s School of Communications Career Fair!
