Family Friendly Performances by BYU Opera and Wind Symphony in the BYU Family Concert Series

The BYU Beverley Taylor Sorenson Family Concert Series Hosts BYU Opera Theatre and BYU Wind Symphony in Concerts Geared Toward the Whole Family

Families with children of all ages can look forward to the Winter 2025 Beverley Taylor Sorenson Family Concert Series featuring BYU Opera and BYU Wind Symphony. These two performances — happening in February and April — are designed for families to introduce the joy of music to children and make lasting memories together.

The Family Concert Series at BYU is free. However, it is recommended that patrons register for tickets to reserve seats for the concert ahead of time at this link.

BYU Opera | Opera Stories!

Date & Time: Saturday, Feb. 22 at 11:00 a.m.
Location: Mainstage Theatre at BYU West Campus

Children get an introduction to opera through stories of the Old West. Witness women helping with the transcontinental railroad and folks squabbling in a saloon, and learn a ghostly legend. Director Shea Owens will provide age-appropriate narration to help all patrons understand and have an enjoyable time.

Please note that this performance will be in BYU West Campus Mainstage Theatre and will have limited seating.

Those interested in the full BYU performance of “American Ghost Stories: Triple Feature” can learn more here.

BYU Wind Symphony | Wild Wind Symphony!

Date & Time: Apr. 12 at 11:00 a.m.
Location: Music Building Concert Hall

Brass, woodwinds and percussion come together in the BYU Wind Symphony to tell the story of the popular children’s book, “Wild Symphony,” written and composed by Dan Brown. Shawn Smith will conduct the Wind Symphony and the performance will include pictures and narration to enhance the musical experience. School of Music professor Mark Ammons will provide the narration.

After the concert, the audience will have the opportunity to come to the stage to participate in an instrument petting zoo where the members of the BYU Wind Symphony will demonstrate their instruments, answer questions and in some cases even allow the children to play the instruments.
