For the Love of Music: February School of Music Concerts

From Anime to Opera, BYU School of Music Has an Array of Concerts to Celebrate Valentine’s Day and the Month of February

The “month of love” is upon us and the School of Music is prepared to help BYU campus celebrate. Concerts held in the Music Building and at West Campus are themed around Valentine’s Day, love, anime and the silver screen — to name a few. Whether you’re planning a date, hosting a family outing or simply want a break from homework, the concerts happening this February are sure to fit the bill.

Winter Choirfest

 

Date & Time: Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m.
Location: Music Building Concert Hall

Witness the versatility of genre and style within the BYU School of Music’s four auditioned choirs — Men’s Chorus, Women’s Chorus, Concert Choir and BYU Singers — in one combined concert. They will present a varied program of classical and modern choral works.

Jazz Voices and Jazz Ensemble: Love is Here to Stay


Date & Time: Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m.

Jazz Voices and Jazz Ensemble come together to offer a classic Valentine’s Day concert covering the most memorable love songs. “This concert is one of our favorite traditions,” said director Hayley Kirkland. “There is nothing quite like the music of the big band era during Valentine's Day. Come on out! It is the perfect date night for you and your Valentine.

Wind Symphony: An Anime Cosplay Adventure


Date & Time: Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m.
Location: Music Building Concert Hall

Are you a fan of Studio Ghibli? The BYU Wind Symphony will take you on an anime adventure with Ghibli favorites. Attendees are encouraged to wear their best modest anime cosplay. Please note that no full-face masks or projectiles are allowed.

Josua Redman Will be a Guest Performer at the Essentially Ellington Regional Jazz Festival

Essentially Ellington Regional Jazz Festival Concert Featuring Synthesis


Date & Time: Feb. 15 at 7:30 p.m.
Location: Music Building Concert Hall

BYU’s award-winning big band, Synthesis, will close the annual jazz festival. The festival will also feature world-renowned jazz saxophonist Joshua Redman.

American Ghost Stories: Triple Feature


Date & Time: Feb. 15 and Feb. 18–22 at 7:30 p.m.
Location: West Campus Mainstage Theatre
Price: $18–22

This opera triple feature will take you on an Old West adventure with tales of the transcontinental railroad and surprise encounters with the unknown with. Students from the BYU School of Music classical voice division portray an array of memorable characters and captivating tales through haunting melodies. The program includes “No Ladies in the Lady’s Book,” “The Face on the Barroom Floor,” and “The Medium.”

“From the jazzy wit of ‘No Ladies in the Lady’s Book’ to the spirited charm of ‘The Face on the Barroom Floor’ and the spine-tingling mystery of ‘The Medium,’ this production promises a night of laughter, chills and unforgettable music,” said director of opera, Shea Owens.

BYU Symphonic Band Silver Screen Serenade: Symphonic Band Showcase

If you love music written for the silver screen — movie soundtracks — then this concert is for you. The BYU Symphonic Band invites the entire family to come enjoy music from movie favorites.

BYU Symphony Orchestra Concerto Night

The BYU Symphony Orchestra Concerto Night will put up-and-coming concert musicians center stage and feature performances by students chosen from the annual freshman/sophomore concerto competition.
