Jazz Ensemble and Syncopation Will Perform Beloved Hits During “A Night on Broadway”
Join BYU’s Jazz Ensemble and Syncopation for “A Night on Broadway,” an evening full of memorable show tunes and infectious rhythms on Nov. 1.
BYU’s Jazz Ensemble, directed by BYU School of Music Assistant Director Mark Ammons, offers students the opportunity to perform in a traditional big band setting.
The instrumental talents of the Jazz Ensemble will combine with the vocal fortitude of Syncopation for performances of several beloved Broadway hits.
Syncopation consists of two vocal ensembles, a six-voice mixed ensemble and a 10-voice women’s ensemble.
Ammons says the performance will serve as a trip down memory lane, with the groups performing well-known songs from well-known shows, including “Under the Sea” from Disney’s classic “The Little Mermaid” and “You Can’t Stop the Beat!” from the musical “Hairspray.”
The groups will also perform “My Favorite Things” from “The Sound of Music,” as well as songs from other popular shows, including “My Fair Lady” and “West Side Story.”
Syncopation director Hayley Kirkland said, “There’s nothing like Broadway music with a big band and large ensemble of singers. It will definitely be a night to remember!”
For one night only, join the Jazz Ensemble and Syncopation and get whisked away to the whimsical worlds of select Broadway shows.
