Nine-time Grammy Awards winner Wynton Marsalis will take the stage at BYU along with Jazz at Lincoln Center (JLCO) to play an evening full of music to your ears on February 15.

“It’s truly an honor to bring Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra to campus,” said BYU Arts Producer Bridget Benton.

Marsalis is an American trumpeter and composer known for his talents in jazz and classical music, claiming his first band performance at the young age of eight. In addition to playing, he is the Managing and Artistic Director of JLCO.

Benton credited Marsalis and the orchestra for their impressive talent. She said, “Wynton Marsalis is one of the finest and most sought-after musicians in the world. This orchestra is filled with musicians of the highest caliber.”

Under the direction of Marsalis, the JLCO and Marsalis comprise 15 jazz players who will make an appearance for their BYU performance. Music Professor Ray Smith said, “The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra is the top big band in the nation and in the world.” He continued, “There are very few other bands in the world that can even be mentioned in the same sentence.”

Both Benton and Smith encourage all to attend the musical evening. Benton described it as “a night not to be missed” and Smith said it “is a don’t-miss opportunity.”

The performance will take place in the Harris Fine Arts Center de Jong Concert Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15. Tickets for this event may be purchased at https://byutickets.evenue.net/.
