For those experiencing cabin fever after a long winter, the BYU Jazz Ensemble offers a one-night getaway from the cold and the snow with its concert “A Night in Tunisia” on March 30.

Inspired by the “legendary bebop trumpeter” Dizzy Gillespie, the Jazz Ensemble’s concert title borrows its name from the song by the famous jazz artist.

“The lyrics of this song paint the picture of romance under the stars in a . . . land far away,” said director Mark Ammons, adding that the “harmonies and haunting melody transport you there.”

The Jazz Ensemble plans to expand on this musical theme with its final performance of the semester. The program will feature songs that vividly evoke different locations, stories and musical heritage. Each piece will take audiences “on a magic musical carpet ride where [they’ll] hear caravans, bugle calls, love songs, talking drums” and other incredible sounds.

Don’t miss out on your ticket to warmer days with the Jazz Ensemble’s “A Night in Tunisia”!
