For the past year, advanced film students in the Department of Theatre and Media Arts (TMA) have been working as directors, writers, producers and crew members in preparation for the “Final Cut Film Showcase,” where they will premiere their Advanced Film Productions (AFP) next weekend.

“Final Cut allows the crew to share what they’ve done with the broader community, but it also gives them a chance to see what in their films is working and what isn’t,” said TMA professor Tom Russell, mentor for AFP students. “The most helpful feedback they’ll get is watching the film with a large audience. So, in a way, it’s the final step in the educational experience.”

Written, directed and produced by advanced film students nearing the end of their time in the program, the films will premiere at Megaplex Theatres in Vineyard on September 19.

“We are blessed with talented students who have interesting visions and interesting things to say,” said TMA professor Jeff Parkin, who also mentored AFP students. “There is a lot of sacrifice and time that goes into this and I am so proud of them for their impressive work. I hope audience members enjoy ‘Final Cut.’”
