Bio

Miles Romney is an award-winning sports journalist turned academic. He earned a BA at Brigham Young University ('05) and soon after began a career in journalism that spanned markets in Idaho and Utah. He worked for local television stations and a regional sports network (RSN).

During his career in journalism, he worked as a sports producer, reporter, anchor, sideline reporter covering college football and arena football, and talk radio host. Additionally, he helped produce live sporting events such as NBA basketball, arena football, college football, high school sports and the Tour of Utah cycling event.

Romney also worked as a freelance reporter for the FOX affiliate in Salt Lake City. During that time, he returned to school and earned a master’s degree in professional communication at Westminster College ('12). After completing his master's degree, he was accepted into the doctoral program at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University ('16).

He began his academic career teaching in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of South Carolina. In 2017, he returned to Brigham Young University. His research focuses primarily on national sports networks and how they frame news and information for audiences across traditional media as well as social and digital platforms.

Romney is married to Jessica Romney, who is his best friend and favorite adventure buddy. They love staying active and are avid cyclists and hikers. They also enjoy traveling and visited nearly every continent and over 50 countries together.
