Modern Marvels is a series of athlete portraits that were taken during time spent with the Brigham Young University football team. The black and white photos portray football, which is commonly seen as a violent and aggressive sport, as a subject full of beauty in the human form. The series consists of photographs of athletes in both staged and candid settings.
Photographer Preston Crawley has had to learn how to execute the type of photograph he wants in a constantly changing environment.
“Imagery that conveys emotion has always stood out to me. As a photographer, I try to emulate the great artists of the past by making photographs that stand out in both their emotion and energy. I have found that in the world of sports photography the grand stadiums and battling athletes are exactly what I look for in the ideal subject. In my work, I try to bridge the gap between traditional sports photography and fine art.”
