Precede//Succeed examines the relationship between successor and predecessor through a range of personal and collective histories: family, cultural, global and ecological.
“We ask how communication and understanding might occur between predecessor and successor and what responsibilities we as present successors and future predecessors have when it comes to remembering, preserving and creating these histories,” said the creative team.
The team said they would like others to reflect on the histories and experiences that make them who they are. “This ranges from family history, cultural and racial history and personal history. We also hope that viewers can make personal connections to our work that lead them to think about how they interpret and pass on history.”
The group said this project has been like a baptism by fire, diving headfirst into putting on their own show. They said they have learned how to collaborate and share ideas.
“We’ve learned about the organization and planning it takes and how we might do things differently in the future.”
