Experience one of the world’s finest Shakespeare companies in person at BYU West Campus’ Mainstage Theatre. Actors From The London Stage will perform The Bard’s most famous tragedy, “Romeo and Juliet.”

Co-founded by the renowned British actor Sir Patrick Stewart in 1975, Actors From The London Stage (AFTLS) is one of the oldest touring Shakespeare theatre companies in the world. The company presents weeklong residencies at 16-18 universities per year.

Coming from such prestigious companies as the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Royal National Theatre of Great Britain and Shakespeare’s Globe, AFTLS actors are uniquely focused on student engagement across the academic spectrum as well as the creation of a collaborative learning environment in which to experience Shakespeare’s texts and universal themes. The goal: to interpret Shakespeare’s text as a blueprint for performance, lifting the words off the page as Shakespeare originally intended.

“Most everyone knows the story, but this ‘Romeo & Juliet’ will be a production unlike anything you've ever seen before. The self-directed cast consists of just five actors who will perform the complete play with minimal props and costumes. This adds a new dimension to the performances that is exciting and engaging—and you'll want to pay attention in order to keep up!” said Lyndsay Keith, BRAVO! Producer for BYU.

The company will be the first BRAVO! performers to tread the boards of the Mainstage Theatre, a space created to meet the needs of theatre students in the new BYU West Campus.

“I believe that one can find truth in all worthy media, and ‘Romeo & Juliet’ is one of those stories that teaches me something new every time. Audience members may walk away with new insights into principles of trust, humility, parenting, healthy relationships, emotional intelligence, conflict resolution, agency, and so on. In other words, there's something for everyone!” Keith said.

For a chance to experience a world-class Shakespeare performance close to home, make sure you don’t miss “Actors From The London Stage: Romeo and Juliet.”
