Simon Shaheen, one of the most significant Arab musicians, performers and composers of his generation, will be performing at Brigham Young University Friday, March 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

A William Shakespeare classic gets a 1940s makeover in Brigham Young University’s production of “Love’s Labor’s Lost” March 14 through 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the Pardoe Theatre.

Brigham Young University will be the host of one of the largest amateur Dancesport events in the country during the U.S. National Dancesport Championships at the Marriott Center Wednesday through Saturday, March 7-10.

Brigham Young University’s Department of Theatre and Media Arts will perform “Little Eyolf” by Henrik Ibsen from Feb. 29 to March 10 in the Margetts Theatre. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. with matinees at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, and Saturday, March 10.

The Brigham Young University School of Music will host the BYU Jazz Festival featuring BYU Jazz Voices, Jazz Legacy Dixieland Band, Synthesis Big Band and more Wednesday, Feb. 29, to Saturday, March 3.

The opening of “Beauty and Belief: Crossing Bridges with the Arts of Islamic Culture” was a huge success. An estimated 1,700 visitors packed the museum to experience the beauty of Islamic culture with more than 250 art objects, live dance and music performances by a Middle-Eastern dance and music group, Eastern Arts, and to sample baklava, a Middle-Eastern pastry.

Brigham Young University's Jazz Legacy Dixieland Band, BYU Trombone Choir, guest artist Dan Barrett and '76 Trombones' will be featured in concert at Brigham Young University Thursday, March 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall. BYU music professors Steve Call and Will Kimball have been organizing as many trombone players as possible for the finale of the program, '76 Trombones,' featuring 76 trombone players. Jazz trombonist Dan Barrett has written a special arrangement of the popular song from Meredith Wilson's 'The Music Man' for this concert. Barrett is one of the world's leading traditional jazz trombonists. He has dedicated his life to the study and performance of early jazz trombone styles and has been featured in jazz festivals all over the world. He can be heard on many movie sound tracks and CDs. He will be featured performing with the BYU Jazz Legacy Dixieland, directed by Call. The group recently returned from the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Festival where they won nearly every instrumental award in the Collegiate Division. Student soloists from Brigham Young University’s School of Music will join the BYU Philharmonic with Kory Katseanes, conductor, in an “Evening of Concertos” Tuesday, March 6, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

On Friday, March 9, the Brigham Young University Motion Picture Archive Film Series will host a screening of “My Cousin Rachel” at 7 p.m. in the Harold B. Lee Library Auditorium.

The colorful Red Star Red Army Chorus and Dance Ensemble of Russia will be featured in a Brigham Young University Performing Arts Series concert Thursday, March 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.
