Students Sarah Stoddard and Myleka Bevans are excited to present their exhibit in the Gallery 303 Foyer. “A cherry cake cone kind of feeling” is a piece full of whimsy and imagination and an experience for all ages.
“We use drastically different mediums in our art practices, but we both build fantastical scenes as a means of coping with trauma and inviting whimsy and cheer into our lives,” they said.
Sarah’s incorporation of small collages invites viewers to leave behind their troubles and enter into an equally thoughtful and playful state of mind. Myleka’s contribution of a large, beautiful cherry cloud installation casts viewers as lead actors in her fantasy picnic where they can feel childlike wonderment.
“We want people to see themselves and their memories reflected in our show and leave feeling thoughtful and happy. We hope our show invites comfort, empathy, and escapism for viewers suffering from mental health problems or the loss of a loved one. Nobody is alone in their anxiety or grief.”
The team hopes that people leave the show feeling happy and thoughtful like they want to call an old friend or watch their favorite movie.
