“A Momentary Lapse of Reality” focuses on feelings of disassociation and how the defining line of reality gets blurred. This is heightened through the collision of ceramic and digital mediums, as well as the insertion of artist Taylor Langston’s closest relationships.
“The individuals highlighted throughout this exhibition are my family members and romantic partner, who are clothed in bright red silky pajamas. These pajamas act as a symbol for existing in a dreamlike state as reality can become unanchored. However, the exploration of these different relationships through the artwork begin to define the line of existing in a more tangible state. The bonds that I have created with those closest to me help to root me in reality and give me a greater drive to try and reside there with them,” said Langston.
She hopes that her exhibition acts as a fantastical experience that offers a stable space for reflection about one’s own relationships with those closest to them as well as their relationship with themselves. By dissecting her own personal relationships and putting them on display, Langston said she feels that she has been better able to understand the other person and grow closer to them, as well as herself.
