Christopher Peterson Aims to Bring Art and Environmental Awareness to All Communities
BYU Department of Art alumni and art educator Christopher A. Peterson (BFA ‘02) has created a niche as an environmentally minded community builder. Inspired by years of hiking and backpacking, Peterson paints large murals that celebrate local wildlife. He said, “I paint murals to celebrate this moment in the presence of these creatures. Being in nature is healing and wildlife encounters are even more so.”
His goals range from involving disadvantaged and underrepresented communities in public art to setting out to paint a wildlife mural in every county in Utah. “We need to find ways to preserve our natural heritage. Art works because it engages us at so many levels,” he said.
