Experience the World of Dance with BYU Department of Dance’s 2024-25 Opening Performance
Once a year, BYU’s top six dance performance companies share the stage in an unforgettable show, featuring the best dance talent the department has to offer. “World of Dance” kicks off the Department of Dance’s 2024-25 season with pieces performed by BYU’s Ballroom Dance Company, Contemporary Dance Theatre, International Folk Dance Ensemble, Living Legends, Theatre Ballet and Young Ambassadors.
Department of Dance Chair Shayla Bott calls this her “favorite annual tradition in the Department of Dance.” She said, “It is one of the largest celebrations of what dance can and does look like all over the world. Dance enriches lives in all cultures, and we present a breadth of what that can look like.”
Among the pieces performed in this year’s “World of Dance” will be “Tensile Involvement,” choreographed by Alwin Nikolais and performed by Contemporary Dance Theatre. This groundbreaking piece is known across the dance industry for its use of long bands suspended from the ceiling. “World of Dance” will also feature “Italian Suite,” choreographed by Gerald Arpino and performed by Theatre Ballet. Gerald Arpino was an esteemed ballet choreographer whose works are still taught and performed by professional and collegiate ballet companies today.
Come see why the BYU dance performing companies are recognized worldwide on September 19th and 20th in the BYU Marriott Center.
