BYU International Folk Dance Ensemble Presents Journey: Reflections

Join the International Folk Dance Ensemble in their Performance, Journey: Reflections, for a Night of Culture and Dance

Experience an exciting night featuring dances from all over the world performed by the amazing International Folk Dance Ensemble. The group will guide audiences through an enriching variety of cultural dances from countries including India, Hungary, Mexico, Romania, China, and many more.

Jeanette Geslison, Artistic Director of the International Folk Dance Ensemble, said, “This cultural dance show is very unique because we are one of the few performance ensembles in the U.S. who present this amount of diverse cultural dances from the same stage.”

The variety of dances in the program means that students must master many cultural and artistic techniques. Not only is this performance full of diverse dancers, it is also accompanied by “the Mountain Strings Folk Music Ensemble, an acoustic group of musicians with instruments including the fiddle, guitar, bass, keyboard, accordion, voice, and cajon,” said Geslison. She noted their excitement for experiential learning, and said, “The student performers love what they do and having this kind of experience is a life-changing part of their education.”

The audience will be able to feel the passion of the performers on stage as they quickly shift from one dance style and costume to the next. Geslison said she is excited for the audience “to see all the beautiful and vibrant traditional dress of each culture.” Specifically, Geslison recommended that audience members watch for “the new Hungarian and Indian pieces and champion Irish dancers.”

“This show is a wonderful way to experience different cultures from around the world from just one seat. It will expand viewers’ world view and understanding while helping them gain a stronger appreciation for the arts,” said Geslison.

Come and enjoy the performances by the International Folk Dance Ensemble at their concert, Journey: Reflections, on February 10 and 11.
