Graduating Dance Major Makeila Morgan Answers Questions About Her Time at BYU
Q: What aspect of dance are you most passionate about?
Morgan: I am most passionate about how dance connects us to the people around us, including our ancestors.
Q: What was your favorite project you worked on as a student?
Morgan: I thoroughly enjoyed every step of my senior capstone project. I was privileged to receive grant funds from the College of Fine Arts and Communications to travel to Tonga, the country my Dad was born and raised in. There I conducted interviews, attended local dance rehearsals and performances and learned about the role that dance plays in my Tongan culture.
Q: What was your most inspiring experience at BYU?
Morgan: My most inspiring experience at BYU has been dancing with the International Folk Dance Ensemble
Q: How have the arts influenced your relationship with God and Jesus Christ?
Morgan: Reflecting on my BYU experience, I cannot deny the immense growth of my testimony. My relationship with God and Jesus Christ has matured as I have immersed myself in the art of dance. I know that where work is, there the Lord is also. I have felt the Lord lead, carry and change me as I have consecrated my time and talents to the building of His kingdom.
Q: How many consecutive hours have you been on campus in one day?
Morgan: 14 hours
Q: As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Morgan: I don’t remember wanting to be anything specific but several family members, including my mother, worked in the dental field and I really enjoyed going to their offices and learning about their jobs as a kid.
