A Melodic Fusion of Eras: “Opera-fy” is a Production Perfect for Everyone

BYU School of Music’s "Opera-fy” Offers a Gateway into the Art of Opera

Tune into the world of opera with BYU Opera Scenes’ upcoming show, “Opera-fy Playlist: An eclectic mix of opera scenes hand-selected just for you.”

“Opera-fy” is not your typical opera production — it is a harmonious blend of old and new favorites that will resonate with both enthusiasts and those brand new to opera. With performances ranging from classic to contemporary, this production will be a dynamic and engaging launch into the opera sound.

"Join us for an entertaining evening of hit scenes from operas both classic and new, handpicked to showcase the BYU vocal students at their best. It's a perfect introduction for those new to opera,” said Shea Owens, BYU director of Opera and “Opera-fy.”

The production promises to present the timeless allure of opera in a show that is perfect for everyone. The program will include the “Soave sia il vento" trio from Mozart’s Così fan tutte, an excerpt from Act 3 of Puccini’s La bohème and “Starry Spangled Banner” and “Singers’ Game” from Jake Heggie’s Great Scott, as well as other favorites. The “Soave sia il vento" scene will provide a musical teaser for the upcoming winter opera production of Così fan tutte, taking place in February.

“This will be our first time performing opera scenes in the new concert hall, and we are going to take full advantage of the amazing acoustics, special lighting, and the adaptable stage. There’s not a bad seat in the house!” said Owens.
