Veterans Day is right around the corner and what better way to celebrate and honor the United States veterans than through patriotic music. BYU has a lineup of two patriotic-themed music performances happening in October and November.

First, on October 22, “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band will play on campus for the first time in its history. Then, on November 8, the BYU Wind Symphony will be joined by special guest GENTRI for their concert “For Heroes Proved.”

“The President’s Own” United States Marine Band | October 22

For the first time in ten years, “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band comes to Utah as part of their Coast to Coast tour. BYU will host the band in concert for the first time ever on October 22 in the Music Building Concert Hall. “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band is the official ensemble for the President of the United States and provides all music for presidential inauguration ceremonies, as well as visits of Heads of State to the White House. The band was founded in 1798 and is America’s oldest continuously active professional musical organization, having performed for every U.S. president since John Adams.

Several BYU College of Fine Arts and Communications (CFAC) alumni work with the band including Karl Johnson (’98) on trombone and Brian Rust (’06) as Creative Lead/Assistant Communication Strategy Chief.

BYU School of Music faculty member Shawn Smith has been asked to conduct one piece for the band which he describes as “one of the highest professional honors” he has received. “The ensemble is widely regarded as one of the best concert bands in the world,” Smith said.

Tickets are standby only. While all tickets have been distributed, all tickets will expire at 7:15 p.m. and patrons in the standby line will be allowed to enter the Concert Hall to claim any unfilled seats. Overflow spaces will also allow patrons to attend the concert in the event that all seats in the concert hall are filled.
