Come Enjoy The Only Concerts On Campus That Invite Children of All Ages To Attend
Music is for all ages at the Family Concert Series. Sponsored by the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Foundation, this annual concert series provides families with free concerts catered to young children and their families. The series hosts the only concerts on campus that allow children under the age of eight years old to attend. Now happening in the new BYU Music Building Concert Hall, attendees get the privilege of being “close to the action” as the musicians perform.
Two Family Concert Series performances are happening this Fall semester. Gather your families and don’t buy a ticket (remember, these concerts are free!) for these unique, high quality concerts featuring some of BYU’s best musical groups.
Music of the Mountain String | MB Concert Hall | Saturday, October 14, 11:00 a.m.
School of Music faculty Rob Dunn said, “BYU Mountain Strings performs bluegrass and folk music that makes your toes tap and your hands clap.” Led by Mark Geslison, BYU Mountain Strings will perform an array of folk music genres from America, Canada and the British Isles. This concert will be narrated by Dance Department adjunct faculty member Greg Tucker.
How to Feed Your Musical Dragon! | MB Concert Hall | Saturday, November 4, 11:00 a.m.
The BYU Philharmonic, directed by Nathan Haines, will perform music from the movie "How to Feed Your Dragon.” As the Philharmonic orchestra plays, audiences will enjoy scenes from the movie as they play on the big screen. School of Music faculty Rob Dunn will narrate the program. The concert will also include lively pieces such as "Flight of the Bumblebee," and "In the Hall of the Mountain King." The audience will have the chance to get involved through movements, musical maps and more.
This series is sponsored by the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Foundation and was created to introduce the joy of music to children of all ages. All family members are encouraged to attend regardless of age, infants on up.
