BYU School of Communications Celebrates Students at the Scholarships & Awards Luncheon

The Hard Work of BYU Students in the School of Communications Recognized with Annual Scholarships and Awards

On April 7, BYU’s School of Communications celebrated its students with various awards in the Hinckley Alumni Visitors Center. Thanks to generous donors, more than 90 communication students were recognized with 32 scholarships, grants and awards. These recognitions will help students as they pursue careers and higher education in the communications field.

One such recognition is the David B. & Carmela T. Forsyth Graduate Grant, which was awarded to Payton Pingree, among others. “I am honored to receive this award,” Pingree said. “It feels great to know that my hard work is being acknowledged by my supervisors. They are encouraging of my ideas and ambitions and are always there to help me and answer any questions I may have.” Working toward and receiving these awards has likewise motivated Pingree to stay on top of her academic schedule and goals.

Vanessa Goodman received the Owen S. & Ora N. Rich KBYU Pioneer Fellowship to honor her time at BYUradio working on “Top of Mind with Julie Rose.” Goodman was honored to receive this award that is named after someone who was so influential in building the organization. “This award will be a great help as I continue working to bring light to the world through communications, just like I have learned to do at BYUradio.”

Another student, Daisy Arvonen, received the Nancy Briggs Rooker Richards Memorial Scholarship. She is grateful for professors who work tirelessly to support their students and loves the experience-based aspect of Communications. “I realized how blessed I am to receive financial support for my education,” Arvonen said, “and that makes me want to make the most out of what I am learning.”
