Charles Dickens’ Story Adapted by BYU Theatre Program Connects the Story With Today's Audience
This is not just another adaptation of a classic novel. It is “Great Expectations” like you’ve never seen it before: fast-paced, beautiful and told by eight actors playing various roles.
Opening this month at BYU’s West Campus Studio Theater, “Great Expectations” is a bold reimagining of Charles Dickens’s timeless story, adapted by Neil Bartlett and directed by BYU’s Alexandra Mackenzie Johns. The production runs through October 31, with special post-show discussions on October 23 and 30, and ASL interpretation available on October 23.
Set in a minimal, stylized world, the production uses movement, lighting and a shape-shifting cast to transport the audience from Pip’s humble beginnings to the grand, grim halls of Miss Havisham’s mansion, to the bustling streets of London.
Even for those unfamiliar with the novel, Great Expectations offers a fresh and moving story about growth, heartbreak and hope.
