BYU Theatre Presents a Courtroom Drama of Twelve Jurors Who Must Decide the Fate of an 18-Year-Old Standing Trial for Murder
Live the intensity of a courtroom drama at BYU Theatre’s production of “Twelve Angry Jurors.” In the edge-of-your-seat play, directed by David Morgan and written by Sherman Sergel, twelve jurors from all walks of life are asked to decide if an 18-year-old boy is guilty of murder.
BYU Theatre Artistic Director, Stephanie Breinholt, said, “This group of performers is incredibly talented and diverse. Originally ‘Twelve Angry Men,’ Morgan's production of the adaptation ‘Twelve Angry Jurors’ features men and women of various nationalities and ethnicities.” This adaptation will connect audience to actors in a more genuine way.
David Morgan has directed the play to give audience members a “hyper-realistic” experience. Breinholt said, “There is a sense of hyper-realism in the play – like that of photo-realism. Events take place in real time, with meticulous period design and detail. Audiences will live the events of the play as they happen.”
Morgan said, “I hope audiences gain a better understanding of the human psychological aspects of the jury court system as well as a glimpse into the mirror of our own prejudices that shape our individual choices and judgments.”
“Not only is this play full of a diverse cast and exciting action, but audiences will find themselves thinking about what they experienced long after the play is over,” said Breinholt. This piece brings up timeless questions of biases and the complexities of truth.
