“During the project, I logged over six hours of flight time across sixty-five different flights, flew a total of twenty-four miles and recorded over three-hundred and fifty videos for our film — an experience I couldn't have possibly received anywhere else at my age.”

Over the summer of 2023, eight students (including myself) and four faculty members from the BYU Department of Theatre and Media Arts traveled to England to work on a 64-day production for a project titled “Congregation,” which we had been researching for since April of 2022. During our time in England, I had the wonderful opportunity to serve as the team’s drone operator as I am licensed both here in the United States and in the United Kingdom. During the project, I logged over six hours of flight time across sixty-five different flights, flew a total of twenty-four miles and recorded over three-hundred and fifty videos for our film — an experience I couldn't have possibly received anywhere else at my age. As a result of flying the drone, I was able to serve the communities that I flew in by providing various overhead views for their own personal use as well as documenting the rich history of their communities from a view-point not many had seen before. Now in post-production, having drone footage has been so crucial for the storytelling of this incredible film because it has provided these “God’s eye view” shots that cannot be replicated any other way.
