Brigham Young University School of Music faculty member Alexander Woods will perform Saturday, May 19, at 5:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall. Admission is free.
Woods, assistant professor of violin in the BYU School of Music, will be playing with his father, Rex Woods, director of the School of Music at the University of Arizona. He will be assisted by other BYU faculty artists Christian Smith, bassoon; Geralyn Giovannetti, oboe; Garrick Woods, cello; and Aubrey Woods, violin.
The performance will begin with FranÁ§ois Couperin’s Premier Concert followed by Jean-Marie Leclair’s Premier Sonate. He will then perform the Scherzo in C Minor by Niels Gade and conclude with César Franck’s Sonata in A Major.
Woods is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music and Yale University where he received a master’s degree in violin performance. He has had a substantial career as a chamber musician, soloist and orchestral player in some of the most renowned venues in the world, including Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the National Arts Center in Canada.
