Music lovers of all ages are invited to enjoy two mornings of music this fall with the Beverly Taylor Sorenson Family Concert Series. The first concert will feature BYU’s Philharmonic Orchestra and guest trumpeters with “Trumpets, Trumpets Everywhere!” and the second will showcase BYU Opera’s vocal talents with “A Beast of an Opera!”, an operatic rendition of the classic tale “Beauty and the Beast.”

Lasting about 45 minutes, the Family Concert Series is the perfect way to introduce young kids to the joy of music. From infants on up, all are welcome to take part in the concerts.

“The overall purpose of [these concerts] is to allow young families to come,” said Philharmonic Orchestra director Kory Katseanes. “The concert is designed for young children [and their] development.”

Crafted to be highly interactive with the audiences, these concerts will keep even the most fidgety child entertained. Attendees are invited to move, clap and dance along with the performers. And after the show, the children are encouraged to meet and take pictures with the musicians and singers.

At the Philharmonic Orchestra concert, kids can see a trumpet up close in a kind of music “petting zoo.” The BYU Opera performance will feature a giant Beast puppet, which the children can afterwards see as they meet the rest of the cast.

With free admission and delightful programs ready to entertain even the youngest audience member, the Family Concert Series is a great way to welcome kids into the magical world of music.
