Professor Asplund will address audiences on “Sacred Music and the Punk Rock Ethic” Christian Asplund is a professor of composition and theory for BYU’s School of Music. As a Canadian-American composer-performer, Asplund has worked with world-renowned artists and recorded with several record labels. Asplund is also a published author. He and Michael Hicks co-authored a book on Christian Wolff. Asplund is a writer and associate editor for the journal “Perspectives of New Music.” In addition to writing professionally, Asplund has composed commissioned musical pieces for prominent performers and ensembles. He has received grants and awards from CalArts Herb Alpert Awards, Genesis Foundation, Barlow Endowment, Artist Trust, King County, Jack Straw Foundation and ASCAP. Asplund received his undergraduate degree in composition from BYU and went on to receive his master’s in music composition from Mills College and a doctorate in music composition and theory from the University of Washington.
