School of Music Professor Jason Bergman Elected President of the International Trumpet Guild

Bergman will represent 5,000 trumpet players across 64 countries

School of Music professor Jason Bergman will already be pulling triple duty as a performer, teacher and administrator when he begins service as the vice president/president-elect of the International Trumpet Guild (ITG) in October. The ITG is the world’s largest academic and artistic organization for the trumpet. Bergman has been a member since his early teens and currently serves on the Board of Directors and on various conference and competition planning committees. His presidency comes as the result of an international election of ITG members and will give Bergman a once-in-a-lifetime platform to give back to the brass world. “Being in this position, you have an opportunity to help shape other musicians,” said Bergman. “I look forward to serving the members of ITG and hopefully trying to help the organization become stronger and better, finding new ways to make it worthwhile to be a member.” As president, Bergman will be responsible for many of the day-to-day logistical operations of the organization. He will also oversee the artistic vision for the ITG’s annual events and assess future roadblocks, projects and opportunities to ensure continued membership benefits for the musicians he represents. “We have over 5,000 members in 64 countries,” said Bergman. “To be voted into this position is humbling, to know that there is a certain number of people who think I would be helpful. This is an acknowledgement of respect and trust from colleagues and peers throughout the world.”
