Master's in Choral Conducting graduate from April 2023

I came to BYU as a burned-out high school choir teacher from California. I needed to come to a place to get my master's degree where music thrived and the Spirit was strong. I was led here. The entire application process and move to Utah was inspired, and all the puzzle pieces fell into place. It was clear that this is what I was supposed to be doing. I am an older student, a wife and mother of four grown children. I knew that I would be in a minority and wondered if I could keep up and be accepted by the student body. My experience with the students, the faculty and staff, the music program and the school has been nothing but awe-inspiring. It has been a surreal experience to be able to work with the amazing choral ensembles at BYU. To see the passion and drive of the professors for their craft and then to work alongside them has been a humbling privilege. They have shown me that I still have so much to give in service to the choral industry and the people that participate in it. The time has gone by way too fast. After graduation, I will be continuing on to the University of Miami for a DMA - which is something I would never had considered before entering BYU. This school has opened doors for me in way that I could never expect. I am so grateful for the blessing of having this experience. It is bittersweet to have accomplished my degree as I would loved to have stayed longer. Thank you.
