The second lecture in this year’s annual Beckham Lecture series will be given by BYU alumnus Brent Anderson
Brent Anderson is the featured keynote speaker at the Fall 2017 Raymond E. and Ida Lee Beckham Lecture in Communication Series. The lecture is a part of the 2017 Comms Alumni Weekend event.
Anderson graduated from BYU with a Bachelor of Arts in marketing communications in 1999. He also studied Japanese and fine art. Currently, he is the Chief Creative Officer at TBWA\Media Arts Lab, the agency responsible for Apple’s advertising. TBWA\Worldwide president and CEO, Troy Ruhanen, said, “Brent is an exceptional talent, a natural leader, and will drive the kind of disruptive, culture-defining work that is worthy of the world’s most iconic brand.” Before his promotion to chief creative officer, Anderson was a senior art director of TBWA\Chiat\Day L.A. and worked with brands including Nissan, Visa, Playstation, Airbnb, and Gatorade. As the featured Beckham lecturer, Anderson will delve into the mission of the lecture series which is to “explore the interactions between media and society, media culture, political economy, media effects and the use of new media.” The Beckham Lectures, established in 1995, are held in honor of Raymond E. Beckham and his late wife Ida Lee Jackson. Beckham is a BYU retired faculty member and administrator, and a current Professor Emeritus of Communications. He taught advertising and public relations for 21 years, served as the director of development and public services and founded the Aspen Grove Family Camp. He was the leading effort behind the BYU Evening School program, BYU Travel Studies program and the New York City Internship Program. Beckham has received the BYU Man of the Year Award, the Presidential Medal and the Alumni Distinguished Service Award. He has also earned Provo's Abraham O. Smoot Outstanding Citizen Award, Rotary Club's Service-Above-Self Award, Scouting's Silver Beaver award, the Red Cross Clara Barton award and the Sons of Utah Pioneers 'Modern Pioneer' award.
