BYU CLARINET PROFESSOR PRESENTS RECITAL AT INTERNATIONAL CLARINET FESTIVAL

August 22, 2013–Provo, UT–Jaren Hinckley, Associate Professor of Clarinet at the Brigham Young University (BYU) School of Music, performed a half-hour recital at this summer’s International Clarinet Association’s (ICA) ClarinetFest® 2013 in Assisi, Italy. Hinckley was selected to perform after a peer review by the conference committee.

Hinckley was honored by the opportunity to present a solo recital to the largest organization within the clarinet field.

“I have performed at other ClarinetFests before, but never have been offered a full half-hour recital before. I also had a larger audience than I’ve ever had at one of these conferences,” said Hinckley.

According to the International Clarinet Association, ClarinetFests® “annually attract hundreds, and more often, thousands of attendees.” Hinckley’s recital was one of “a wide variety of world-class performances, lectures, and events,” as John Cipolla, President of the International Clarinet Association, characterized the five-day conference.

For Hinckley, this gathering of the world’s best clarinetists provided a prime stage to “raise the visibility and prestige” both for his talents and for Brigham Young University.

“Attendees at ClarinetFests include professors and professional clarinetists from all over the world, as well as students from all over the world,” he said.

Hinckely was pleased to report that, in front of this international forum, “the audience reaction was highly positive.”

This reaction, he noted, also shines a light on Brigham Young University.

“It brings attention to the quality of performance artists hired by BYU as professors,” he said.

About the International Clarinet Association

The International Clarinet Association is a community of clarinetists and clarinet enthusiasts that supports projects that will benefit clarinet performance; provides opportunities for the exchange of ideas, materials, and information among its members; fosters the composition, publication, recording, and distribution of music for the clarinet; encourages the research and manufacture of a more definitive clarinet; avoids commercialism in any form while encouraging communication and cooperation among clarinetists and the music industry; and encourages and promotes the performance and teaching of a wide variety of repertoire for the clarinet.

To these ends, the association is dedicated to fostering communication and fellowship of clarinetists on a worldwide basis through publishing a quarterly scholarly journal, The Clarinet, producing an annual clarinet festival, ClarinetFest®, supporting a research library with materials available to all members, and promoting a variety of other endeavors related to the clarinet and clarinet playing.
